Conversations That Matter

I’m a week late with this one. I’ll blame it on the tattoo (which I talked about getting a couple weeks ago and showed off this week).

Colossians 4:2-6

Here is a link to the online notes to help you follow along.

And these are the first few points I put on the screen but not in the online notes:

Paul is calling them to partner with his ministry by praying for it. (Colossians 4:3-4)

Paul is calling them to partner with his ministry by carrying it out where they are. (Colossians 4:5-6)

And by extension, Paul is calling us to partner with his ministry by carrying it out where we are.

A few notes and quotes

Best quote from my notes that I skipped during the sermon:

There is too much of the Christianity which stodgily depresses people and too little of the Christianity which sparkles with life. William Barclay

My favorite spontaneous quote from the message:

“No matter how you want to frame it, come up with a way to explain it.” (In reference to 1 Peter 3:15 (NLT) Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your Christian hope, always be ready to explain it.)

And here’s the quote about apatheism:

“I have Christian friends who organize their lives around an intense and personal relationship with God, but who betray no sign of caring that I am an unrepentantly atheistic Jewish homosexual. They are exponents, at least, of the second, more important part of apatheism: the part that doesn’t mind what other people think about God.” Jonathan Rauch in Atlantic Monthly
